Jon, I had a 105 with a factory swing out carrier for about 80,000kms African potholes with OEM steel rim and 265/75 tyre - no issues at all other than the latching mechanism corroding a bit and the rubber bits wearing allowing a bit of vibration/noise - both issues fixable in a flash...

Olazz - great truck.  What size of exhaust is that side exit pipe  Shocked Some more pictures of that would be interesting!

Ok, thanks for that, definately sounding like they're strong enough even for a 36x12.5x16 Simex on an OEM alloy (OEM steels pretty much double the weight of that combo!) for UK laning and 285 AT's for longer trips. Sorry I've hijacked your thread a bit Olazz, I think you need to post more pictures of your truck  Very Happy

WS,

36x12.5x16 sounds like an unusual size tyre.  To make 285's 36" they would need a 90 profile. Do they make that tyre?

More pic of cruiser when I've done a bit more to it.

Hi Gil,

Exhaust is 3" with just the front box.
LISTEN HERE

What pics would you like to see and I'll try and do some.

No I'm talking about two different sets of tyres without making it obvious. I have some Simex ET II's in 36x12.5x16 that I use for laning / play days and when I'm using those I'll put the spare on the carrier to save boot space as no way they fit under the back! They're quite a heavy tyre so this is the one that's got me questioning the OEM carrier strength. My road / long distance tyres will be a set of 285x75x16 AT2's so I wouldn't expect any problems with one of those on the carrier. I know a 285x75x16 will still fit under the back BTW but I may go for a long range tank.

Well this is the starter truck. 1992 Landcruiser imported into the UK 2004. Paid £3,250 with 12 months MOT and 6 months Tax.

The Idea is to drive with a friend with a 110 to South Africa. He has had a total rebuild of his landy at Liverage and it was featured on the front cover of Landrover owner international mag Jan issue.

The Land Cruiser Its had a good clean and removed 27 jap coins from under the seats and carpets.

Starting to make a list of the mods etc needed.

first thing is get the red paint off it  eerrrrr

I will keep posting as I find the bits and bobs and problems as I find them.

So it's go the factory electric winch, factory 3 inch lift - has it got the camping gear in the back. I looked at one like this before I got mine, was fully loaded except for no electric seats or front and rear lockers. Had 33 inch tyres on 15 inch Compomotive wheels. was the same colour and everything. Alcantara trim as well which was lovely.

I take it that's an aftermarket front grill without the badge.

Nice looking motor ...except for the red of course. Laughing

Off for a paint job this week
Get rid of the red

Back seats have now been removed and a storage system is under construction.

Looking at wheels and tyres now.

Anyone want to buy some alloy wheels ? 15 x10 I think.

I looked at most of the manufacturers and opted for the Howling Moon tent. IMHO better than the Ezi-awn. Im very impressed with it so far and tested it in the hideous weather last weekend... no leaks, although Im not sure it could stand up to the English climate for month after month.
Am now on look out for an Oztent  RV3 for when we spend more than one night at camp.

Been a busy boy this week.

Been sprayed, new wheels and tyres and the ARB front bumper fitted. Snorkel on as well.

Next Week is OME all round and have the injectors checked. Finish off the storage unit and re-make the centre console with a safe inside bolted to the floor.

Phew getting a bit of a rush now.  Only 8 weeks to go.

I have collected all the bits off e bay over the last 6 months. Wheels and front bumper have been re-powder coated.
