Rear wiper hasn't worked since acquiring the vehicle. I was imagining having to replace the motor since hearing that rear wipers are a weak point on these cars. Auto electrician diagnosed a siezed wiper rotor - £32+VAT from Toyota to replace.

Ditto sunroof, onto which he squirted some lubricant, and now whirrs healthily into tilt position. According to owners manual, it should also slide back, but electrician was of the understanding that it only tilted, and didn't proceed with any more diagnosis.

The only other problems are now a rear demister that can only muster a partial demist on two copper lines in the middle of the window (any ideas??), immobiliser fob that seems to have lost its zest for life and finally a low oil level light that flickers on (there are sevearal postings about this on IH8MUD so it appears to a common TLC problem).

Almost forgot, the radiator will be due for replacement any time soon. Detected some leaks some weeks back, and coolant level needs frequent topping up. Best price I can find so far is Milners at £220. Tony Allen Motors in Kingston quoted £550 !! The guy said it's the most expensive radiator he's ever seen. Toyota only charge £304.

When I bought my rad from the dealer, it was £540 plus a £50 surcharge for the old one. When I asked if they did service exchange, they said no. I guess they wanted the old one back just to throw in the bin, as reconditioned one's didn't seem to be available from anywhere.

£300 looks cheap, so maybe they've dropped their prices, though mine is for an auto. Don't forget you get a 3 year warrantly on the genuine one.

Sounds like yours isn't an OE fitted sunroof as they had seperate controls for tilt and slide which should have been obvious to the electrician.

There's probably a break in some of the elements of the rear window demister. You can buy some conductive paint specially made for this job from most car accesory shops. You just find where the break is and paint over it with a fine paint brush. It works,I've used it before.

Have you priced up a radiator recon from a specialist radiator company.I had this done on a V12 Jaguar I owned a few years back and it was less than half the price of a new one.

The sunroof is a Toyota dealer fitted unit. I've seen another TLC with it, also a basic GS model. When it slides back, it slides up and over the roof. I am guessing that GX and VX sunroofs were factory-fitted. The sunroof instructions form part of the owners manual, although these pages look have been inserted into the manual after the original manual was printed - same as for the Toyota immobiliser, the instructions for which look like a late addition.

My old Merc's radiator was £300 from a Merc dealer, and deducted £150 for the old one. Net price = £150 (and that's for a 5litre). Toyota also quoted a surcharge for the old one.
