Hi, just joined after owning lj70's ive just bought an HJ60.
i think i got a great deal, mink colour shiny paint, 90k on the clock genuine history main dealer FSH 1 owner from new 20 years ago, small amount of rust none on chassis perfect mechanics, slight notchy changing to 3rd gear, drives wonderfully.
Can anyone tell me a little about it as its a 1990 H2T its a turbo version and i have a feeling it may be rare as i cant seem to find any info
on this model easily?
i can find all about the standard 4 litre models but not the turbo models.
i am completely smitten with this truck, ive driven an auto before but this manual is just so endearing, it feels like driving a train.
id love to know more about it as i would like to restore it to mint condition.
thanks |

Hi Bigjw
The engine is a 12HT and your vehicle should be a HJ61. Its a turbo, direct injection version of the 2H. Its quite common in Japan and Australia but it was only in production for 5-6 years Its a good engine but the dealers in the countries where it was sold have no parts except service items.
Dont break any engine parts, wreckers here wont sell any old parts they can use to rebuild engines.
I had one for a while ,brilliant engine but the rust was in the roof and firewall. Wish I had of kept the engine and swapped it into a 75 series.
Probably the biggest concentration of 12HT owners and information is on IH8MUD in the diesel and 24volt section.
There is also some Canadian vendors who have a few parts from Japan
An oil change might help with the shift into 3rd _________________ 1995 HZJ75 troop carrier

Hey thanks for the info, i didnt know that parts would be hard to get over here. Ill have to look into that in advance in case anything goes wrong i suppose.
12HT engine ill have to remember that too.
Just pulled a large caravan for a couple of hundred miles up steep hills no problems at all feels great to drive but i know what you mean about the rust thats going to be a tough job (and i imagine quite expensive ) to complete, but it looks so good and drives so well i think its worth restoring.
3rd gear slips in nicely if the revs are higher i think i just needed to get used to it compared to the LJ70.
im astounded at its pulling power, feels like a train to drive fantastic.
thanks for the info |

I had one for about three years, it was a super old monster but the rot got the better of it in the end. |
