Hello Ecky

Did you also replace the high beams with 100w?

Many thanks.

As always thanks for your help.

Took the Headlight Dimmer Relay apart applied 12v -  contact poor. Took off the small spring, cleaned up (and slightly bent forward)  the contacts  and switch restored. Saved £40.

Cheers

Martin.

Did the same to mine and made the first use of a mini contact cleaner file that I got years ago at a market (ex-BT). Used to use them all the time when I worked in a BT exchange. That's the great thing about relays, incredibly simple devices, very reliable and very mendable - a bit like a Land Cruiser really. Same thing can be done with the wife's emery board for her fingernails (when she isn't looking  Very Happy  Very Happy )

They are the twin element bulbs so high 100w and low beam 90w.

Thank you.

Understand that, was also wondering if it is worth replacing the inner high beam only bulbs with 100 w.

Have gone ahead and ordered them - and thanks again for the recommendation - I used to run similar 90/100 w in my Pajeros - were great but did melt the connectors at one point.

Hopefully will be fine on the 80 - it does seem to be built of much stronger stuff in all respects. Looking forward to getting better lights.

Meant to ask - how are those 4 spots attached to your truck - the bumper or have you a small light bar up front? Looks great, BTW Surprised

The inner ones on mine are the fog lights and to be honest, I use them so seldom that I have left them as original.

The spots are on a nice shiny chrome light bar (believe it or not Embarassed ). They were really cheap and only have 55w bulbs but they are awesome when I need them Laughing

Same thing happened to my 208,000 mile 1989 audi. Fuel pump relay packed in. Cleaned points with 2000 grade paper and fine. Relay is full of little condensers, chips, resistors etc etc!! What is all that needed for? I thought it was just a simple switch. Dread to think of the cost of a new one; more than the car's worth.

Just for future reference, there are two relays used in conjunction with each other, one brown and one black, they become under rated as they age.  It will be found that the contacts at the bottom of the fuse /relay box are often melted.

Regards

Dave
